LEE COUNTY— Local author Randy Wayne White, a New York Times best-seller, can finally relax now that the woman he says harassed him over the internet for the last two years was finally arrested. 52 year old Debby Wilbanks was arrested Thursday and charged with cyberstalking.
For more than two years, mystery novelist Randy Wayne White says he has been harassed, accused and threatened through e-mail and web postings by an unknown woman who claimed he had wronged her.
"The police report says more than a hundred emails and postings. I suspect far more," said White.
Threats to pay him a visit to settle things made a recent book signing tour unbearable for White.
"Every day I was in a different city, four or five bookstores with lines of people. And I'm thinking is she going to be one of them?" he said.
Then White felt the emails and web postings from the wireless woman went too far.
"When she e-mailed my son, my underage, minor son. That was…," he said.
Fifty two year old Debby Wilbanks was arrested Thursday by Seminole County deputies. She was charged with cyberstalking, a form of harassment using the internet or other electronic devices.
White says he can try to put two years worth of harassment behind him.
"Many of these things this woman posted were embarrassing to my family and my children so I feel relieved," said White.
